The Dorchester Atheneum exists only as a web site devoted to the history of Dorchester, Massachusetts. The original Dorchester Atheneum was a private subscription library for Dorchester residents. The site is devoted to Dorchester's history and to the shameless promotion of Dorchester's wonderful features: its people, its architecture, its businesses, its institutions.

Lost Dorchester. For Buildings lost to demolition or to fire, etc. click on the Architectural Preservation entry under the "Home" section on the left of the screen. You can also find a list of properties considered to be in danger.
The Dorchester Historical Society has sponsored two very important initiatives – ideas that have grown over the past few years into conferences and other activities.
* Tide Mill Institute
The Tide Mill Institute explores the history of mills powered by the flow of the tides and the possibilities of re-uses of the tide-mill sites.
* The Alliance of First Period Properties
The Alliance promotes interest in the earliest buildings of New England’s colonial period from the establishment of the Plymouth Colony until about 1725.
